I stare out the window of the 25th floor

I stare out the window of the 25th floor
Looking at the busy city streets; so full of life
And yet so devoid of it. A dark overcast
Hangs over this tired city; Exhausted even
To the point of sleepwalking through the day.
Ortigas. Makati. Does it really matter where
You sit all day and stare at the clock moving
Ever so slowly and you hold your breath until
Your brain screams and then everything
Begins to move too fast. Days. Months. Years.
And the process of earning a living becomes
The process of living, itself, and we claw our way
To the next big promotion; Hoping it will lead
Us to the promised land where we can start
To enjoy what we’ve accrued and we stop
To think of where we’ve been, what we’ve done
And we realize that we never did get what
We came for and that we ended up wanting more.
Excuse me, I have a call… Good Morning!
Though it should be good night to all.
